My Favorite Part of Fight Week
The Romans used to feast before going into battle. A last celebration if you will.
My team and I do our own version of this after weigh-ins are over. It’s my favorite part of fight week.
During fight week, I’m eating very light. Very few carbs. This depletion starts weighing on you both physically and mentally.
But after I get off the scales, it’s time to replenish. And I’m not just eating some plain pre-packaged meal out of a container.
We gotta do it right and scientifically 😉
First things first, we have to carb up. We’ve been depriving our body of this macronutrient the entire week.
And I’ve got all the meals planned out beforehand 😁
What better way to get some carbs in than some good pasta?
So our lunch usually entails a pasta place. Spaghetti, garlic bread, and chicken parmesan on the table.
But we gotta eat correctly or else we can mess up our stomachs. So take one bite of food, followed by a drink of water. Simultaneously throughout the meal.
By doing this, the food can digest properly and doesn’t make us bloated.
If I get too bloated, I can’t eat later. And my body will still be depleted. I need to get at least 700g of carbs to get back to normal.
So after meal one is over, we usually take a walk. Burn that food off and prepare for the second meal later.
The second meal is still a carb up. But it’s lighter. My choice for this second meal is usually sushi. It digests easily and I can eat a fuck ton of it 😁
To get our money’s worth and necessary carbs, we usually pick a nice all-you-can-eat place. Then it’s time to go ham.
But remember to only eat until full. Not until you’re sick. It’s a fine difference and a little self-control can go a long way.
That’s how my team and I celebrate like the Romans before going into battle.
I love it. It’s a tradition that helps take my mind off the fight for a bit and raises everyone’s spirits.
Feast then WAR. Aroo! Aroo! Aroo!!
Smile, Be Happy
Learning to be positive is a skill.
It’s easy to embrace bad energy, indulge in negative thoughts, and expect the worse case scenarios. Our caveman DNA wires it into our brain.
But imagine if life was like a choose-your-own-adventure. Your next move can alter where you’re going next, no matter the situation.
When you contaminate your moods and attitudes with negative outlooks, you’re doing yourself a disservice. If you’re full of bad energy and negative thoughts, it’ll only make things worse.
You’re like Jack Sparrow with The Black Pearl. You are the captain of your own ship. The ship is your mind.
There’s always another way to get something done. If you’re still alive and breathing, it’s not the end of the world.
So do yourself a favor and try to eliminate negativity from your world. Change your environment or the people around you.
PSA - Spending less time with negative people will make you feel better.
Today can be a great day if you allow it to be.

An Epic Moment I’ll Never Forget
Some fighters are iffy about having their loved ones at their fights. I love it.
Whenever possible, I love having my family there in the audience. Especially my kids.
I remember when my son Julian and Anastasia came out to my fight in Atlanta at UFC 236.
After getting my hand raised and walking out of the cage, I saw Julian and Stasia above the tunnel.
I pointed at them and smiled. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
It’s good to show the kids what you do. Show them what’s possible. They learn through action after all.
So make it happen.
Now this might sound bad… but I do think if you suck and you keep getting knocked out… you should spare your family the heartache.
It’s a tougher pill to swallow live in the arena than turning off the TV 😬
Meme of the Week 😂😂
All I remember is my 6’6” dark chocolate ass dad walking around the house in his tighty whiteys watching basketball in the living room
👨🏿🦲🏀🫣😒😆💀
Can anyone else relate? 🤣💯
That ends it for this week’s MPG Letter!

OMG, you've done it again! Made me ravenous just reading it. That's what a good piece related to food (and of course other things) is supposed to do (trust me, I'm an English professor lol).
As for your choices to carb up, I've never agreed with anyone more. I can also eat "a fuck ton of it" 🍝🍣
Keep shining ✨️
