My Thoughts On Judging
Judges suck.
Something needs to change. There are close fights where it couldโve gone either way. And then there are straight robberies!
Usually thereโs one judge thatโs the culprit for different fighters. Itโs like that judge has beef with the fighter.
Recently, Doug Crosby got slammed in the media AND now heโs under review by the commission. If you watched UFC 282, there was a huge controversy with the Paddy Pimblett and Jared Gordon fight.
28 out of 29 MMA media outlets scored the fight in favor of Jared. Crosby scored it 29-28 for Paddy. This is the same guy that scored a fight 50-45 for the loser in the Bellator bantamweight championship fight the night before!
We need competent judges. Preferably, people who have fought MMA before.
There should also be a protocol where a bad call is reviewed. The judges donโt see the real-time stats the fans see on TV, so the stats should come into play.
But this shouldnโt even be needed if we actually had competent judges to begin with.
I feel for Jared. Iโve been on the bad end of some shitty decisions.
And for me, itโs always Sal Dโamato. Every. Single. Time. That F*CKER ๐คฌ๐
In my โlossโ against Neil Magny, that decision was because of Sal too. After that fight, Mick Maynard (the UFCโs matchmaker and Dana Whiteโs right-hand man), came to visit me in the medical tent.
In his Australian accent, he said, โGreat fight. Me and Dana both thought you won that so we are going to pay you your win bonus!โ
It was bittersweet.
Yeah the money helps. But thereโs still an L on my record, so I still feel screwed.
Even though the Boss said I won, the decision that matters for the fighters is the judgesโ. Thatโs why itโs a problem.
Donโt get me wrong though, Iโm happy with getting the money at the end of the day.
And as far as Iโm concerned, Iโve won 5 in a row ๐
The Fortunate Feast
I hate waking up early 364 days of the year, this one day is the exception.
For the past four years, my family and I have volunteered at the Fortunate Feast. Itโs an annual holiday outreach event in Sacramentoโs Oak Park community.
I come from humble beginnings. Our holidays werenโt always jolly. My mom worked hard to provide for me and my brothers.
So itโs important to me that my kids grow up knowing how to โpay it forwardโ.
We helped set up the event. Passed out food, toys, and household goods to the less fortunate families.
A lot of the families that come through say they look forward to this event all year long. Theyโre grateful for the small items that we might take for granted. Toilet paper, cleaning products, and hygiene items.
Itโs great seeing my community get together for the greater good. For me, I love seeing all the kidsโ faces light up when they get to choose toys. Itโs priceless.
And this year we helped over 500 people!
Huge shoutout to YXP, BAWS, SKYFLUX, and HumbleRoot for continuing to show how strong Sacramento is when awesome people work together!!
19th Annual Emerald Cup
This past weekend was also time for the 19th Annual Emerald Cup! IYKYK.
My buddy Greg from CannabiScapes invited me out to Santa Rosa to attend the event. And if you didnโt know, the Emerald Cup is THEE Cannabis event of the year!
I had an absolute blast.
I picked up sooo much heat ๐ฅ, lit up with a ton of the homies in the industry, and even got to meet Devonte Magic! One of the sickest magicians I've ever seen!
Shoutout to a few of the companies I linked up with: Bear Labs, Terp Hogz, Lempire, Dee Gummies, Sluggers, Focus V, Cookies, Ridgeline Farms, Farmer and the Felon, Strong Mountain Farms, ABX.
I even had the man himself, Fidel, roll me up a hashhole!!
Day 1 wasnโt enough for me. You know I had to go back for Day 2. But this time I was with my buddy Justin Bowers, an OG in the industry. Justin is a foodie like me! And you know what that means.
We ended the epic weekend with some bomb Peruvian food at Ayawaska in Petaluma!ย
