It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over
It ain’t over till the ref rips you off the opponent.
That is the golden rule for all fighters. Being nice and saving your opponent from unnecessary damage, that’s what the ref is there for.
Last week at UFC 300, we watched Jalin Turner walk away from a KO hoping the ref would stop it. He didn’t.
That potentially cost him the fight. In hindsight, maybe he should’ve ground-and-pounded to finish the job.
But I think he had to be affected by his last fight with Bobby Green. He was beating a dead horse there.
It’s truly a fine line.
But like I said, it ain’t over till the ref rips you off. We are talking about decisions made in microseconds.
When you do a walk-off KO, you are making an agreement with the ref that they are done.
What if the ref doesn’t agree?
Now you’re letting the guy recover. And as long as your opponent is awake and conscious, they have an opportunity to win.
This sport is a motha and don’t love nobody 🥶🤷🏽♂️
Pure Magic
The BMF fight between Max “Blessed” Holloway and Justin Gaethje was wild. One of the best fights I’ve ever seen.
That ending was magic. Couldn’t have written that script better with a movie.
It’s definitely inspiring. You gotta risk it for the biscuit as they say.
Max was already up on the cards and decided to give Justin a chance at the finish. Commendable.
It could’ve played out the other way too. Justin could’ve caught Max and finished him at the buzzer.
But what a legendary moment in combat sports.
We train to win the end of the round, it’s what judges remember the most. Recency bias.
Seeing that performance definitely entices me to push the gas pedal when I hear that final 10 second clapper.
For some coaches, moments like that would give them a heart attack. But as far as my coaches, they know it’s my style.
I’ve been in unnecessary fire-fights quite a lot. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Good thing I have one of the best chins on the planet 😤
No To The Fro
When you see those guys with big fros or full beards, do you wonder if that can reduce the impact of punches? 🤔
I do think the hair can reduce some impact for sure. I see guys like Alex Caceres fighting with his fro waving around everywhere. Hats off to him.
For me, it’s all bad. I tried boxing sparring last year with my hair out. What a mistake.
My head was so heavy 😆
When I started sweating, it was so hot too. It felt like I had on a beanie that was 10” thick.
I’ve never been so tired after one round. So yeah, afro Max is definitely not the play 😂
